360 Picks: Week 8

Over/Unders continue to mystify the 360 picks computer, going 4-10-1 for week 7, but we turned in a double header of goodness with our Straight picks going 10-5 and Spread picks turning in a 9-6 week. As we near the midpoint of the season, our records are improving as the selection computer is hitting it’s groove. With the Giants on bye, we’re examining a few things and hope to fine tune the models to give a big push towards plus territory in the second half of the season. Stay tuned.

First let’s look at how we’ve done, then we’ll move on to this week’s selections.

Straight up: 6-1 on High confidence picks, 4-4 on Low. 10-5 Overall
Straight up season: 27-14-1 on High confidence picks, 32-32 on low. 59-46-1 Overall

Spread: 2-2 on High confidence picks, 7-4 on Low. 9-6 Overall
Spread season: 13-16 on High Confidence Picks, 37-38-2 on Low. 50-54-2 Overall

OU: 1-3 on High confidence Picks, 3-7-1 on Low. 4-10-1 Overall
Season OU: 4-9-1 on High confidence picks, 41-58-3 on Low. 45-58-3 Overall

Parley Picks: Missed, 0-1. 0-7 Overall. It was a mess, but we’ll keep trying.
Suicide Selections: 3-1, 19-9 Overall. Only missed on the one we liked the least, the Seahawks.

    360 Picks Week 8:

Detroit Lions vs Atlanta Falcons (London):

    Line: Lions by 3.5
    Over/Under: 46.5

Analysis: The Lions defensive line is playing great football. Meanwhile, the Falcons put their second center on injured reserve in 2 weeks. This one could get ugly, fast.

    Straight Pick: Lions
    Spread Pick: Lions – 3.5
    OU Pick: Under 46.5

Confidence: Low on all three picks

Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

    Line: Buccaneers by 2.5
    Over/Under: 43.0

Analysis: The Vikings are 1-10-1 on the road straight up in their last 12 road games, but neither team has been good against the spread. The Buccaneers should win the game (or is it the Vikings should lose it), but take the points in a match-up like this.

    Straight Pick: Buccaneers
    Spread Pick: Vikings + 2.5
    OU Pick: Over 43.0

Confidence:  Low on all three picks

Chicago Bears at New England Patriots:

    Line: Patriots by 6.5
    Over/Under: 51.5

Analysis: The AFC East can thank the Chiefs and the Boston media for awakening the sleeping Patriots. Since their blowout loss to Kansas City, the Patriots have been on a tear, and Tom Brady on fire, throwing 9 touchdowns with no interceptions. The Bears, meanwhile, are infighting and calling for a leader to emerge while Brandon Marshall has been trying to do just that.

    Straight Pick: Patriots
    Spread Pick: Patriots – 6.5
    OU Pick: Under 51.5

Confidence: High on all three picks

St. Louis Rams at Kansas City Chiefs:

    Line: Chiefs by 7.0
    Over/Under: 44.0

Analysis: Both teams have been playing good football, with Kansas City having the better overall team, but St. Louis the better defense. This is a lot of points to give to a solid defensive team with a quarterback that likes to take chances down field. The Chiefs win, but the Rams keep it close. Lots of points for everyone.

    Straight Pick: Chiefs
    Spread Pick: Rams + 7.0
    OU Pick: Over 44.0

Confidence: High on the Spread and the Over; Low on the Straight

    Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers:

    Line: Seahawks by 6.0
    Over/Under: 44.5

Analysis: Seattle followed up their home loss to Dallas with a road loss at St. Louis and now, Richard Sherman is blaming the officials. Although they ran into a buzz saw in Green Bay, Carolina has managed to be competitive in most of their games this season. Seattle’s losing streak hits three.

    Straight Pick: Panthers
    Spread Pick: Panthers + 6.0
    OU Pick: Over 44.5

Confidence: High on the Spread, Low on the Straight the Over

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets:

    Line: Jets by 3.0
    Over/Under: 40.5

Analysis: Buffalo lost their top three running backs last week, Fred Jackson for a month and C.J. Spiller for the season. Enter Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown just in time to face the Jets highly regarded run defense. The Jets meanwhile, traded for Percy Harvin, who must be just delighted to go from having Russell Wilson to Geno Smith as his quarterback. It won’t matter, Jets defense wins it.

    Straight Pick: Jets
    Spread Pick: Jets – 3.0
    OU Pick: Under 40.5

Confidence: Low on all three picks

    Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars:

    Line: Dolphins by 7.0
    Over/Under: 42.5

Analysis: Will Jacksonville run their winning streak to two games? C’MON MAN. Miami wins easily.

    Straight Pick: Dolphins
    Spread Pick: Dolphins – 7.0
    OU Pick: Over 42.5

Confidence: High on the Over; Low on the Straight and the Spread

    Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans:

    Line: Texans by 4.0
    Over/Under: 42.0

Analysis: Tennessee is starting rookie Zach Mettenberger for the first time opposite J.J. Watt. Houston is considering switching from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Ryan Mallett. They won’t need him this week as Watt and company terrorize the rookie.

    Straight Pick: Texans
    Spread Pick: Texans – 4.0
    OU Pick: Under 42.0

Confidence: Low on all three picks

    Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals:

    Line: Ravens by 3.0
    Over/Under: 45.0

Analysis: Baltimore is due for a let down game, and Cincinnati is the place where team have been letting down in recent years. The tie with Carolina is the first home game the Bengals didn’t win since December 9th, 2012, and that streak includes two wins over the Ravens.

    Straight Pick: Bengals
    Spread Pick: Bengals + 3.0
    OU Pick: Over 45.0

Confidence: High on the Straight and the Spread, Low on the Over

    Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals:

    Line: Cardinals by 2.0
    Over/Under: 49.0

Analysis: The Eagles are a beatable team and are full of themselves after spending their bye week listening to how good they are after dismantling the Giants in their last game prior to the break. Meanwhile, the Cardinals got a boost when starting quarterback Carson Palmer returned to the lineup last week. It will be a high scoring affair with the home team winning.

    Straight Pick: Cardinals
    Spread Pick: Cardinals – 2.0
    OU Pick: Over 49.0

Confidence: High on the Straight; Low on the Spread and Over

    Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers:

    Line: Colts by 4.0
    Over/Under: 49.5

Analysis: Pittsburgh found the on switch to the Ryan Fitzpatrick turnover machine right before halftime last Monday night and used the quick 21 points to hold on to a 30-23 victory. Andrew Luck won’t be as generous and will pick the Steelers defense to shreds. Lay the points and bet the over.

    Straight Pick: Colts
    Spread Pick: Colts – 4.0
    OU Pick: Over 49.5

Confidence: High on the Straight and the Spread, Low on the Over

    Oakland Raiders at Cleveland Browns:

    Line: Browns by 7.0
    Over/Under: 43.0

Analysis: A funny thing happened to Cleveland on their “Clear path” to 6-2. They lost. To Jacksonville. By 18 points. Embarrassed and angry, the Browns return home to take on the NFL’s other punching bag, the 0-6 Oakland Raiders. The Browns couldn’t give two teams their first win of the season, could they? Nah. But Oakland will keep it close. Take the points. And if Brian Hoyer plays as poorly as he did last week, we might see Johnny Cleveland <tm>. May Lord Goodell help us all.

    Straight Pick: Browns
    Spread Pick: Raiders + 7.0
    OU Pick: Over 43.0

Confidence: Low on all three picks

New Orleans Saints at Green Bay Packers:

    Line: Saints by 1.0
    Over/Under: 55.5

Analysis: New Orleans used to be money at home, but they’ve slipped this season. Sean Payton is a great coach and my money is on him to fix their problems during the bye. Or at least mask them. And Green Bay’s offensive line is still a mess.

    Straight Pick: Saints
    Spread Pick: Saints -1.0
    OU Pick: Under 55.5

Confidence: High on the Straight and the Under; Low on the Spread

    Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys:

    Line: Cowboys by 10.0
    Over/Under: 49.0

Analysis: These teams hate each other. And Washington’s run defense is really, really good. Plus Kirk Cousins is not playing to throw a bunch of gift interceptions. Colt McCoy has been a solid game manager and should be able to manager the Redskins running game, and short passes to their tight ends and talented duo of wide receivers in a surprising, and enjoyable, Monday Night upset special.

    Straight Pick: Redskins
    Spread Pick: Redskins + 10.0
    OU Pick: Under 49.0

Confidence: High on the Under; Low on the Straight and Spread

If you want to play a parley: The best of the high confidence picks… Rams + 7.0, Bengals + 3.0, Colts – 4.0

If you’re in a suicide pool: In order… Broncos, Cardinals, Patriots, Browns
