The Giants defense looked like they needed help last Wednesday night against the Cowboys, and they could be receiving that with the return of Prince Amukamara and Marvin Austin’s debut in the NFL. Amukamara injured his ankle in the Giants third pre-season game. He is desperately needed at cornerback, with all the injuries New York has sustained at the position. Michael Coe injured his hamstring while replacing Amukamara last week, but says he feels 75-80% ready, so hopefully he will be able to get on the field against Tampa Bay as well.
Marvin Austin missed his entire rookie season of the NFL with a torn pectoral muscle, and has not played a meaningful football game in about three years. Even if he can play against the Bucs, it would be hard to expect anything at all from him. Austin will probably get on the field for a few plays on Sunday, but nothing more than that.
There is also good news for the offensive line, with Will Beatty taking reps with the first team this past week of practice. Beatty says that his back feels fine, but Coughlin is unwilling at this time to make any definite decisions regarding Beatty’s status in the starting lineup. I would expect Beatty to start if he remains healthy the remainder of the week.
