With the Giants final pre-season game in the books, they have finalized the roster for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. The notable cuts from the team included running back DJ Ware, inside linebacker Greg Jones, and undrafted free agent David Douglas. Ware had often been injured and did not play much this pre-season. As of this morning he had already been picked up by the Buccaneers, who the Giants will play week two. In his place will be Andre Brown, and second year player Da’Rel Scott.
Greg Jones played in all 16 games last season and started five. Jones finished the season with 22 tackles and a fumble recovery. The undrafted free agent, David Douglas, turned himself into a fan favorite this training camp, but unfortunately for him the numbers game was not in his favor. However, like any season, injuries will occur and Domenik Hixon is definitely at risk for an injury. And if the Giants find themselves depleted at receiver it is a distinct possibility that Douglas could be brought back in to the fold.
Hakeem Nicks finally made his first appearance in the Giants last pre-season game. He had been out with a broken foot and is expected to play against the Cowboys Wednesday. Nicks said that he might have to fight through pain, but expects to play the entire game Wednesday. Nicks has gained a track record of getting injured, but recovering quickly and playing through the pain. His quarterback, Eli Manning, will be excited to have a full complement of weapons on offense when facing their division rivals.
